Patrick's Fiddle

Patrick Rufus Hourigan, IV  - Born: 1760 in Ireland, Death: 12 Apr 1819 in Washington County, Kentucky USA

According to family history from Thomas Monroe Hourigan (Birth: 13 Sep 1911, Death: 20 Apr 2010), the original Hourigan ancestor in Washington County was Patrick Hourigan, a native of Ireland who came first to Virginia.  Patrick had no money and played a fiddle to pay for his passage.  Tom's brother (Kenneth Mason Hourigan) who lived in Harrodsburg had the violin, which was made in the 1700's and has now passed on to Kenneth's daughter, Carolyn.  Patrick Hourigan had large land holdings, slaves and made many sales.  He had little money and used wheat, corn, and cattle for barter.
